Alexa 4 Musicians is building a new data dashboard for musicians to get personal recommendations on Amazon Alexa to increase their fans. Here’s a simple mockup of the dashboard, built by Arthur Sweetman, Data Science Engineer at Voice First.

Musician Dashboard — Alexa 4 Musicians

Data Over Opinions

The age of AI is powered by 3 things:

  1. Big Data
  2. Strong Algorithms
  3. Capable Engineers

Big data is essential to any successful musician, record label, or music platform in the age of AI. It’s easy for me to say “people LOVE my music! I showed Sally my new song and she told me it was the best song of 2020!” There’s 2 problems with this approach:

  1. Sally is only 1 data point. What do the other 7.5 billion humans think?
  2. Sally is biased. Does Sally really like your music? Or, is she a friend wanting you to feel confident about your music?

Data Driven Design has a popular saying, “data over opinions”.

As UFC fighter Max Holloway would say:

“Numbers don’t lie. Women lie, men lie, but numbers don’t lie.” — Max Holloway

I trust you Sally. Maybe my music IS the best thing you’ve heard in 2020. Your voice counts. That’s the cool part about data, EVERYONE’s voice counts. But Sally isn’t the only one that matters. Truly successful insight comes from the musician with 1,000+ data points. From 1,000+ data points we can see what your fans really like, what they don’t like, and recommend changes to earn you more fans.

AI-Powered Music

Once you have 1,000+ data points from Amazon Alexa we can start applying our AI recommendation engines to give you personalized recommendations on how to improve your music on Amazon Alexa & Alexa 4 Musicians.

An AI is only as good as its data. What data does Alexa 4 Musicians collect on your behalf, as a musician?

  • How long are fans tuned in?
  • Which songs are fans listening to?
  • What questions do fans ask you on Amazon Alexa?
  • How many fans talked to you on Amazon Alexa today? this week? overall?

With this data you have greater insight into what your fans like. With fan insights, you can be smarter with your next release. Whether it’s an EP, a national tour, or a new livestream series on Twitch (like Akira the Don’s morning show), data is key to making your musical career more intelligent by harnessing the power of AI.

What is Data Science?

According to UC Berkeley, data science is:

“The ability to take data — to be able to understand it, to process it, to extract value from it, to visualize it, to communicate it — that’s going to be a hugely important skill in the next decades.” - Hal Varian, chief economist at Google and UC Berkeley professor of information sciences, business, and economics

UC Berkeley

This summer, we invited our first data scientist to join our team at Voice First. Arthur Sweetman joined Voice First as our first Data Science Engineer. All I can say is “WOW WE NEEDED A DATA SCIENTIST SOONER”. What’s awesome about Data Scientists, like Arthur, is their incredible ability to focus on the data. While me & the other engineers are heavily focused on adding functionality to benefit the FANS, Arthur is focused on using data generated by the fans to benefit the MUSICIANS themselves. This makes Alexa 4 Musicians a 2-way street of value (win-win):

  1. fans get to hear their favorite musicians talk to them on Amazon Alexa.
  2. musicians get data on their fans to improve their musical experiences.

Today we live in the Age of AI. AI is fundamentally impacting every, single, facet of society. The last technology to change the world like this was the age of computation which changed everything (still changing more to this day). You can read more about AI, Computation, and the other general purpose technologies (GPTs) here. Data science is a critical part of any AI team. Data Science is a critical part of Alexa 4 Musicins. Data Scientists, like Arthur, are giving musicians more data so they can make more intelligent decisions. Data Scientists, like Arthur, are making it easier than ever for musicians to make better music & increase their fans on Amazon Alexa.

there’s still so much to build.
